Place an onion on a cutting board and cut the stem.

Half the onion from top to bottom. peel back the outer skin of the onion. For chopped onion :- Cut straight lines towards the root of the onion. Flip the flat side down and make 2-3 cuts across carefully. Slice the onion from top to dice it.

For onion slices:- Take the peeled onion, keep flat side down and cut the onion into thin slices lengthwise/widthwise.

For onion rings :- Place onion sideways and slice off the stem and root. Peel off the onion skin, turn the onion sideways and slice the onion into rings. Thickness can be adjusted (use smaller or medium size onions for this).

For diced onions:- Take peeled onion halves and cut the root. remove the bulb and lay the flat side down on a cutting board.

Cut into half and further into quarters. Peel the layers of onion from each other.
