Rinse the potato in cold water, rub it with your clean hand, turning it in the water as you do so.

Place the potato in a pot/pan and fill it with cold water.

Add a pinch of salt and turn the flame/temperature on high. As the water starts to boil reduce the flame/temperature. Let the potato cook without a lid.

For par-boiled potato:- boil the potatoes for 12-13 min. (ideal for potato wedges/fries, which will be baked further in oven)

For half-done potato:- Boil the potato for 20 min. (ideal for Indian curries and gravies)

For a fully done potato:- boil the potato for 30 min (ideal for mashed potatoes)

To check the doneness of the potato, poke it with a fork. Once the potatoes have cooked, drain the water by pouring the pot into a colander or use a slotted spoon to remove the potatoes from water. Allow the potato to cool down, then it's ready to use as required.
